이번주 BBC Learning English - 6 Minute English가 다룬 문법 관련 이슈 는 관계대명사(4), 전치사(4), 관계부사(3), 수동태(3), 문장부호(2), that(2) 등이였습니다. 그 외에 전치사 구문, 한국어와 영어, 형용사, 복합전치사, 분사, 어·구·절, 관계사, 동사, 동사: 디렉시칼동사 등이 각각 1 건씩 다루어졌습니다.
[본문] [07] Yes, good guess, but in fact the truth is even stranger - they're varieties of vegetable being grown in the UK by a new generation of fruit and veg growers.
[설명] 「a new generation of」 「a+명사+of」 또는 「명사복수+of」의 의 형태로 뒤의 명사를 수식하는 형태의 관용적 형용사구를 만듭니다.
[본문] [08] Forget traditional carrots, leeks and potatoes - vegetables today are getting a modern makeover thanks to breeding methods which mix two different plants to produce something completely new, known as a hybrid.

⑶ 『known ~』는 과거분사(구)로 something을 후위수식합니다. 분사 앞에 '주격관계대명사와 be 동사'가 생략되어 있다고 생각할 수 있습니다.
⑷ 「something completely new」 등과 같이 thing으로 끝나는 대명사를 수식하는 형용사는 뒤에서 수식합니다.

[설명] 「a type of」는 「a+명사+of」 또는 「명사복수+of」의 의 형태로 뒤의 명사를 수식하는 형태의 관용적 형용사구를 만듭니다.

[설명] 『with mini cauliflower heads shooting ~』은 「with+목적어(명사)+서술어」 문형의 「with 부대상황」 구문입니다.목적어는 명사(구)인 'mini cauliflower heads', 서술어는 'shooting out ~'입니다. '~한 상태로, ~하고, ~하면서, ~한 채 ' 등의 뜻을 갖습니다.

⑵ 『became extremely popular 』의 become은 2형식 문장을 만드는 연결동사로 '상태의 변화'를 나타냅니다.

⑵ 두 개의 관계사절 「that you're looking for」와 「that will help in the kitchen」이 선행사 'any particular traits'를 공유합니다.

⑵ 『what it looks like』은 what 목적격 관계대명사절로 절의 문장 성분은 전치사 to의 목적어입니다. what은 스스로는 like 전치사의 목적어입니다.

[설명] ⑴ 'the way'는 방법을 나타내는 관계부사입니다. 원래는 'the way + how'였지만 지금은 the way나 how 중 하나만을 써야 합니다. 'the way'는 명사절을 인도하는 접속사로 보기도 합니다.
⑵ 대시(줄표)는 동격 관계를 나타냅니다. 「the texture」와 「the way」 명사절이 동격입니다. 부연 설멸으로 볼 수도 있습니다.

[설명] ⑴ 대시(줄표)는 동격 관계를 나타냅니다. novelty와 「the fact」는 동격입니다.
⑵ 「the fact that ~」 구문은 that절이 명사절이어야 할 경우 that절 대신 관용적으로 사용합니다.
