Castigate 와 chastise 는 동의어입니다. 이 두 단어는 모두 누군가를 처벌하다, 질책하다 라는 뜻을 갖고 있습니다. 철자는 많이 다르지만 이 두 단어는 어원이 같습니다. 라틴어 castigare는 순순한(pure)이란 뜻의 라틴어 castus와 “이끌다(to drive”), “행동하다(to act)”라는 뜻의 라틴어 agere의 합성어입니다.
